Deadly Northern California Wildfires Are Linked To Power Lines..
A dozen blazes in the swarm of deadly fires north of San Francisco last fall were ignited by power lines coming into contact with trees and other utility system malfunctions, California authorities announced Friday.
The report released by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, also known as Cal Fire, reveals investigators’ findings on the cause of 12 of the 170 fires in the state last October.
The most destructive fire included in the report is Napa County’s Atlas fire, which burned more than 50,000 acres and destroyed nearly 800 structures.
“At one location, it was determined a large limb broke from a tree and came into contact with a [Pacific Gas & Electric] power line,” the report said of how the Atlas fire ignited. “At the second location, investigators determined a tree fell into the same line.”….

Kilauea destroys 600 homes, marking its most destructive eruption in modern times
The number of homes destroyed by lava has reached 600 since Kilauea started erupting on May 3, 2018, marking its most destructive eruption in modern times and the most destructive in the United States since the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens.
The number surpasses by far the 215 structures destroyed during Kilauea’s earlier eruption cycle that began in 1983 and continued nearly nonstop over the next three decades. Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim, whose house was also recently destroyed, said Kilauea has never destroyed so many homes before in such a short period of time….

Health officials say a salmonella outbreak linked to pre-cut melon has sickened 60 people in five Midwestern states.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Caito Foods LLC on Friday recalled pre-cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe and fruit medleys containing at least one of those melons that were produced at its facility in Indianapolis….
2,800-Year-Old Face, Possibly of Biblical King, Found in Israel
A small carved sculpture discovered in the ancient city of Abel Beth Maacah in northern Israel, and dating back over 2,800 years, could be a depiction of a biblical king, according to archaeologists.
Robert Mullins, a professor at Azusa Pacific University’s Department of Biblical and Religious Studies, who is co-director of excavations in the ancient city, said last week that the sculpture was found last summer in a large building at the highest point of the city….
